On Wednesday, Adidas said that the number of customers in China has dropped sharply since the Chinese New Year began in January 25th over a period of more than a month, and sales in China dropped by 85% compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, passenger traffic in Japan and South Korea has also declined.

However, Adidas said business outside China has not been seriously affected.

Adidas said, "because the situation is changing every day, it is not reliable to quantify the overall impact on the 2020 year."

Earlier, Adidas competitor Puma said that public health events would drag on sales and profits in the first quarter, but insisted on annual performance targets.

As of 17:54 Beijing time, Adidas (DE:ADSGN) shares rose 1.82%.
