Import Clothing Pformation And Upgrading Of The United States

With the continuous improvement of the economic situation, the demand for clothing of American residents has returned to the level of consumption growth before the crisis.

In the first quarter, the per capita clothing consumption expenditure of the US residents and the retail sales of clothing and apparel in the US market maintained a steady growth.

However, the growth rate of imports from the United States has been declining, and my share in the apparel import market has decreased.

The pformation and upgrading of garment export enterprises in China and the enhancement of core competitiveness are already in the firing line.

In the first quarter of this year, US economic growth was slowed down by consumer spending, government spending and business investment indicators, and the rapid rise of energy and food prices inhibited the willingness of residents to consume.

According to the recent data released by the US Department of Commerce, the first estimate of US gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter of this year increased by 1.8% at an annualized rate, significantly slower than the 3.1% growth rate in the fourth quarter of last year.

However, from the data of per capita clothing consumption and the growth of apparel and apparel retail sales in the US market, the clothing consumption in the US market is still growing steadily, and the growth rate of imports from the world has increased by 10.91 percentage points over the same period last year.

However, under the background of more optimistic clothing consumption and faster growth of imports, the United States imports from China.

Clothing products

The growth rate has dropped by 7.31 percentage points over the same period last year.

It shows that the export of Chinese clothing to the United States is being challenged by rival countries such as Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia, Romania and Morocco, and it is a real reminder that the positive pformation of garment export enterprises in China has been "in the firing line".

Steady growth in clothing consumption

The United States is a country where clothing consumption is very mature and its per capita is very high.

Clothes & Accessories

Consumption is high and consumption inertia is strong. Once consumption habits are developed, it is not easy to reduce substantially.

Despite the financial crisis, the consumption of clothing in the United States has declined rapidly. However, with the continuous improvement of the economic situation, the consumption demand of its residents has returned to the level of consumption before the crisis.

According to statistics from the US Department of labor, the expenditure on clothing and clothing of US residents increased by 5.56% over the first quarter of this year, and the growth rate was 2.73 percentage points higher than that of the actual consumption expenditure in the same period.

According to statistics from the US Department of Commerce, apparel sales in the United States increased by 4.78% over the same period last year, and the growth rate also accelerated by 2.61 percentage points over the same period last year.

With the sustained growth of consumer spending in the United States and the continued growth of clothing and apparel retail sales, the United States has also seen a rapid growth in the import of textiles and clothing from the whole world.

According to statistics from the US Department of Commerce, in the first quarter of 2011, the United States imported $17 billion 225 million of clothing products from the world, an increase of 13.31% over the same period last year, and the growth rate was 10.91 percentage points faster than the same period last year.

And in a more optimistic way.

Clothing consumption

With the acceleration of import growth, the growth trend of imports from the United States is opposite.

According to the US Department of commerce data, in the first quarter of this year, the United States imported clothing products from China to US $5 billion 643 million, an increase of only 7.61% over the same period last year, lower than the US growth rate of 5.7 percentage points from the global market during the same period, which is also 7.31 percentage points lower than that of the United States from the same period last year (14.92%).

From the perspective of clothing import volume in the US market, in the first quarter of 2011, the number of garments imported from the United States even showed a negative growth trend, which was 7.69 percentage points slower than that of the United States in the same period, and far lower than that of the United States imported from Vietnam, Bangladesh and Indonesia by 16.52 percentage points, 22.53 percentage points and 16.67 percentage points.

This shows that China's clothing products in the US import market are being challenged by rival countries.

In recent years, competition among countries in the international market has become fiercer. More and more developing countries have integrated into the global economy and participated in the international division of labor, and their competitiveness has been constantly improving. The rising prices of raw materials and the rising labor costs in China's textile industry are particularly evident in recent years, making emerging developing countries directly challenge and compete with China's traditional textile and garment industry, especially the clothing industry.

Some orders for textile and apparel in the international market, especially clothing products orders, have also begun to shift to rival countries such as Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia, Romania and Morocco.

The price of clothing products in these countries is very low, which is in line with the popular consumption pattern of "fast fashion" in the US.

According to the relevant research report, American consumers are increasingly concerned about "fast fashion", and the replacement rate of cheap clothing is even higher. Residents buy cheap clothes and will replace them in a few weeks.

However, due to the impact of the comprehensive cost increase, the price of our export products has been increasing rapidly in recent years, and the competitive edge of the price has gradually weakened.

According to the author estimates, the first quarter of this year, the United States imported clothing prices from China increased by 8.19% over the same period last year, higher than the United States during the same period from the global import clothing price growth rate of 2.44 percentage points, it is far higher than Vietnam, Mexico, Indonesia and other countries in the price level.

This is also an important reason for the slowdown in the import of clothing products from China in the first quarter of this year.

This is also a real reminder of the positive pformation and upgrading of garment export enterprises in China and the improvement of core competitiveness.
