Yohji Yamamoto Brand Introduction

Japanese designer Yamamoto Teruji (Yohji Yamamoto) introduces:

Born in 1943 in Yokohama, Yamamoto Teruji (Yohji Yamamoto), mother is the tailor of Tokyo city. Since the late 1960s, young Yamamoto Teruji began to help his mother with tailoring affairs. At that time, the tailors in Tokyo were in a low position. They had to go from household to family to do business. In terms of clothing clipping, it has no idea of its own. It can only act as the employer in the western fashion.
But Yamamoto Teruji (Yohji Yamamoto) was unwilling to do so. After graduating from law school, he went to Europe and stayed in Paris for some time. After returning to Japan, he was determined not to let others see himself as a subordinate, because he had realized that fashion design could be a creative art as well as painting.

In 1972, Yamamoto Teruji (Yohji Yamamoto) set up his own studio and was recognized as a representative of avant-garde in the mid 70s. Not only that, he often met Wakubo Rei, another pioneer, and fell into a protracted Platon affair. It is interesting that Yamamoto Teruji (Yohji Yamamoto) has also kept in touch with Wakubo Rei's husband, the British knitted designer Adrian Joffey, and "exchanged" Wakubo Rei's story: "when we set foot in Paris, the press said that we were dressed in a typical Japanese costume, while in Japan, we were considered too avant-garde."

In 1981, Yamamoto Teruji (Yohji Yamamoto) and Wakubo Suzu held a controversial fashion show in Paris. According to the guardian's fashion editor Brenda Polan, "before then, Paris had never seen such a black, bold and loose dress. They aroused controversy over traditional beauty, elegance and gender." Yamamoto Teruji and Wakubo Suzu worry about this: "we all think we are very internationalized, but in the international community, the media still regard us as" Japanese style ".

After the depression of the early 1990s, Yamamoto Teruji (Yohji Yamamoto) joined in with new passion. Though he was in a bad mood for a while, he wanted to make some ugly clothes intentionally. But soon he was completely attracted by an eternal beauty.
