Xiamen University Tackling Ceramic Fiber Industrialization Technology

Zhang Ying, vice president of Xiamen University and director of the Key Laboratory of special advanced materials in Fujian, recently revealed that the school has made significant technological breakthroughs in the preparation of high-performance ceramic fibers, alumina chopped fibers, and is now independently researching and developing industrial technology and equipment. After the implementation of alumina short fiber project, a considerable upstream and downstream industrial chain will be formed. He looks forward to promoting the industrialization of alumina fiber cotton project with the fastest speed through cooperation among government, production, education and research institutes.

According to the introduction, the Key Laboratory of high performance ceramic fiber of the Ministry of education of Xiamen University has completed the laboratory research on the cotton fabric used for automobile liners, and has successfully prepared small test samples similar to those of advanced foreign products. The key technology of alumina fiber preparation has also achieved a breakthrough and entered the pilot stage. Zhang Ying said that because of its high technology content, high technical difficulty, high threshold and strong competitive power, all countries are developing independently, and have adopted strict technical confidentiality measures.

Zhang Ying said that in the mid 90s of last century, Xiamen University began to study alumina fibers. After many years of tackling problems, they have broken through the difficult problem of continuous spinning, grasped the changing mechanism of fiber pyrolysis and sintering process, and solved a series of key technical problems such as cracking and diameter of raw silk. In the engineering research and development of alumina fiber, the requirements for equipment are also very high. Due to the blockade of the industrialization technology of alumina fiber abroad, Xiamen University is now developing its own technology and equipment, including batch preparation technology and equipment, batch production technology and equipment for fiber cotton, batch sintering technology and equipment for alumina fiber cotton. They look forward to the cooperation of the government, industry, University and Research Institute to promote the industrialization of alumina fiber cotton project at the fastest speed.

It is understood that alumina fiber is one of the high-performance ceramic fibers. Alumina chopped fiber cotton is especially high-grade fiber cotton with alumina content above 95% and short fiber cut from long fibers. Products can be widely used in automotive gaskets, high temperature insulation, high temperature filtration and other fields. Using high strength and high elastic alumina fiber and ceramic matrix composite technology, the fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composites with excellent toughness can be obtained, and the technological level of the ceramic industry can be obviously improved, and the rapid development of the high-tech ceramic industry will be promoted.
